Tight foreskin? Here’s what’s actually happening.
Phimosis — a foreskin too tight to retract — is common, treatable, and nothing to be embarrassed about. Understanding the cycle is the first step to ending it.
The phimotic ring
A band of tight tissue prevents the foreskin from retracting normally. It can make hygiene difficult and cause pain, tearing, or discomfort during daily life and intimacy.
Moisture gets trapped — germs multiply
Because the area can’t be cleaned properly, moisture builds up in the enclosed space. That warm, damp environment is exactly where bacteria and yeast thrive.
Balanitis — painful inflammation
The result is often balanitis: redness, swelling, and pain that keeps coming back. Repeated infections can scar the tissue and make the tightness progressively worse.

Dr. Mattar offers a thorough evaluation, accurate diagnosis, and a comprehensive managment plan that actually makes sense.
A Royal College–certified urologist, Dr. Mattar trained in medicine at the University of Toronto, completed his urology residency at the University of Manitoba, and is fellowship in uro-oncology at Princess Margaret Hospital. His surgical experience spanned 15 years at Niagara Health.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Mattar?
For OHIP-covered consultations, a physician’s referral is required by OHIP rules. If you do not have a family doctor, you can obtain a referral from a walk-in clinic, faxed to (416) 534-7125 or emailed to mattarmd@gmail.com. If you do not have a referral or a valid Ontario health card, the fee for a consultations is $160.
Is circumcision covered by OHIP?
Coverage for circumcision depends on several factors such as patient’s age, severity of the phimosis, and the medical indication for treatment. Dr. Mattar will perform a comprehensive assessment to determine whether your circumcision qualifies for supplemental OHIP coverage. Office-based procedures offer many advantages but may also involve fees associated with providing private surgical care. Any applicable fees will be discussed during your initial consultation.
What happens at the first appointment?
Your first appointment begins with a private consultation with Dr. Mattar, where you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and review your symptoms in detail. A physical examination may be performed where appropriate, followed by a clear explanation of the provisional diagnosis and treatment options. Please bring a current list of your medications to your appointment.
How do I get to the clinic?
We’re at 726 Bloor St W, Suite 106 (basement level) — steps from Christie subway station on Line 2. Street parking and Green P lots are available nearby Bloor and Christie.
Do you see children and older patients?
Urological conditions affect people at every stage of life, and Dr. Mattar sees patients of all ages — from newborns to seniors. Caregivers, family members, or support persons are welcome and encouraged to accompany patients throughout their clinic visit.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes, we offer both in-person and virtual consultations. We prefer a personal encounter for a more comprehensive assessment, and it helps establish a stronger doctor–patient relationship. However, virtual consultations are a convenient option that we are happy to accommodate. When requesting your appointment, simply let us know if you prefer a virtual consultation.

How to find us — we're in the basement
We are located next to Christie station. There is a staircase going downstairs between the Baskin Robbins and the Korean Manna restaurant. Alternatively, there is an elevator inside the pharmacy that can be taken down to the basement.
If you are driving, there is a Green P #093 at 675 Manning Ave., Toronto.
