These are medical problems, not character flaws

Erectile difficulties and fertility problems are common, they are medical, and they are usually treatable. The most frequent reason they go unaddressed is embarrassment. A urology appointment is a routine, confidential medical consultation — the same as one about a knee or a kidney.

Erectile dysfunction

Difficulty getting or maintaining an erection becomes more common with age, but it is not something you simply have to accept. It also matters beyond the bedroom: erectile dysfunction can be an early warning sign of cardiovascular disease, diabetes or hormonal problems, which is a good reason to have it assessed properly rather than buying something online.

Assessment covers your general health, medications, hormone levels where relevant, and the pattern of the problem. Treatment options range from addressing an underlying condition, through medication, to other approaches when tablets are not suitable or have not worked.

Testosterone

Low testosterone can cause fatigue, low mood, reduced libido and loss of muscle mass — but so can plenty of other things, and testosterone is over-prescribed on the basis of symptoms alone. Proper assessment means measuring it correctly, interpreting it in context, and being honest about whether treatment is actually indicated.

Male infertility

Roughly half of fertility difficulties involve a male factor, so assessing both partners is sensible from the outset. Evaluation typically starts with a history, an examination and a semen analysis, and proceeds from there depending on what is found.

Vasectomy

If you are looking for permanent contraception rather than fertility treatment, see the no-scalpel vasectomy page.
